Hello there! Many of you were MIA last Monday when we watched the last tour. So I would like those of you who were not present to write a 300 word explanation as to why you are such a “slappy”, as Joe would say. Actually, read this anyway, and try to respond as best to your ability :)

This tours ruling question was Who is God? And, as we observed and probably knew beforehand, we can’t even come close to answering that! (Thank God!) God has given Himself many names, each one focusing on a particular attribute of God. God wants us to know and understand Him (Jer. 9:24), and He uses different names to help us grasp a little bit of Who He is. What do you Names mean something. What is your name? Is it Humble? Courageous? Honest? Wise? Is it Conceited? Coward? Liar? What does God call you?

We discussed that God is the ultimate source of all truth.

We need to have faith in this! Everything He’s ever said is true. We tackled that scripture dealing with the reigns of Joram and Jehoram. What were your thoughts when Dr. Tackett first pointed out the discrepancy? Did you understand what he concluded? How do you handle scripture that you don’t understand or seems contradictory?

Recall the Jesus Seminar. The participants threw in colored beads declaring the likelihood of things Jesus actually said and did. And people buy into that. What is your response to the outcome of that seminar? How can you better prepare yourself to defend the Gospel?

If I recall correctly, Dr. Tackett, in paraphrasing Jesus, asked us, “Why do you worry? Why are you afraid? Don’t you believe God is who He says He is?” All of us as humans tend have worried and feared. Does that mean we don’t believe? We know that He is truth, and He’s said He’ll take care of us. So why do we fret?

I notice that I’ve asked quite a few questions, and yet there was a lot of the lesson I didn’t even touch. you don’t have to go through and answer all of the questions, but feel free to discuss what you feel led to. I also encourage you to ask..and answer if you’d like..more questions. Thinking deeper and tackling difficult issues are ways that we can grow closer to God.

When you are done and have posted your response, I encourage you to pray. Thank God for being Truth. Thank Him that we cannot fully comprehend who He is. Ask for God to show you how you can serve and honor Him more. Pray for the leadership team and the other members. Lift up needs that you know of, and just….pray.

Thanks guys,

Brittany

Thank you so much for your time this afternoon! In processing our conversation further I see the need for four steps to take place.

Step 1 – Discover what is currently taking place at BFC in terms of outreach to the community.

Step 2 – With the help/approval of the Staff and Elder Board, determine which ministries should be under the umbrella of BFC (certainly there are many things taking place withing the community that should not necessarily be adopted by BFC.  One danger is that we become to convoluted. Too many ministries brought before the body will likely overwhelm the Church and prove counterproductive. Good companies do a few things well. I think the same applies for Churches).

Step 3 – Develop an oversight comity with each member having a specific job description that will enable the existing ministry leaders to be encouraged and their ministry to be consistently promoted before the body. You might think this should be the first step, but I think we should first determine what and who we are working with before we establish any sort of leadership structure.

Step 4 – Pray about new possibilities for outreach to the community, establish a vision, and recruit the right people to make those dreams a reality.

Lets simply start with Step-1 and see where things lead. What ministries are you aware of that are going on at BFC at this time?

Axis Update: Week of February 8, 2009

Well, we are ready to go to Camp Ventana (with the exception of the parent meeting mentioned below and the fact that we are at this time about 4 seats short :P). If you know of anyone who would like to drive down to Porvenir and spend a week with us please let me know.  We do have other options as well so don’t worry too much about it.

Do come to Youth this Wednesday as Robbie will be presenting on World Missions and talking about how to determine your calling. I’m looking forward to hearing what he has to say!

Don’t forget about the mandatory informational meeting for those going to Camp Ventana and their parent(s) on Thursday, February the 12th in the Youth House at 7:00pm. I will have a notary there to fill out your “Permission for a Minor to Travel in Mexico” form so don’t worry about getting that done until then.

There is still an opportunity to raise funds for Camp Ventana by selling Fund Cards. The order forms and instructions are available in the Youth House and you have until February 11th to get that in. You earn $6 per card sold and that money goes directly to cover the cost of your trip.

Remember we would like to take as many new or lightly used blankets and/or sleeping bags with us down to Porvenir to distribute to those in need. If you have old children’s blankets those can be used by the orphanages in the area. Please bring any donations to Youth on Sunday, Tuesday, or Wednesday or drop them off by the Church Office during the week.

Hume Lake signups will begin March 1st this year. As usual a $75 deposit and a completed registration form (almost ready!) will hold your spot. I do not have any more details at this time but I did want to give you a heads up so that you can start saving.

I hope that you all have a wonderful week and I will Lord willing see you on Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday.

In Him,

Joe Anady

brittany-bHey guys! Sorry it’s taken so long to get this up! Blame it all on Joe ;D ;D

Okay, so we’ve now gone through the second Tour of the Truth Project! I hope you guys are taking notes and stuff! It’ll really help you meditate on what you learn from the videos.)

In this lesson, Dr. Tackett discussed Philosophy and Ethics. In response to the video, I would like you all to please answer at least one of these three points:

1.)    Recall in the beginning of the lesson where Dr. Tackett explained worldviews with cube, or box, analogies on the chalkboard. Philosophical questions like “What is existence?” and, “What is the purpose of life?” have been asked throughout history, and Dr. Tackett states that “[we] won’t find the answers to the Big Questions inside the box.” Why is this?

2.)    Is it possible for a Christian to be deceived and “taken captive” by the empty philosophies of the world? If you have been deceived, how do you know?

3.)    According to Dr. R.C. Sproul, there is a distinction between morality and ethics. What is it? How has the confusion between the two caused a crisis in ethics in the modern world?

4.)    I know I said three points, and this is obviously a fourth. But if you would like, feel free to discuss anything else you learned or are concerned about from this or the first video. Ask more questions, or just share! :)

I would also like to challenge you guys with something! ;) If you’d like, meditate and pray on this point that was mentioned briefly (and I forget by whom)– God is. Why do we live as He is not? –Maybe ask yourself the question “How do I live as He is not?” As you pray and talk to God, let the Holy Spirit show you ways for you to live more for Him and less for yourself. You don’t have to share on here, but I would like to encourage you to do this, being real with yourself, and God. Sharing with another, if you’re comfortable, could also be good for accountability.
